hiking bradley falls

in addition to dupont, we did a morning hike on sunday before we left Saluda, and it was really pretty.

we were able to climb down some rocks and get some really great pictures of the cascading water......

despite all the signage of deaths and not to attempt it, which is sort of eery feeling......

looking forward to returning soon, Saluda!

Also, can you guess who this is?
hint: this was shot the year of my birthday.

Answer: Madonna.  Check out 124 other rare photos you have probably never seen before of famous people (they are really great) here.

Hiking in Dupont

Saturday we packed a picnic and drove to Dupont state park. Well, us and 40,000 other people had the same idea. Reluctantly we parked on the side of the road and headed down the trail. The further in past triple falls and the covered bridge, the crowd thinned!

Margaux was amazingly behaved both around bikes and horses.

It was a really beautiful day and we found a trail all to ourselves that opened onto this gorgeous pristine lake.

We stopped and had our lunch on a rock by the lake while Margaux awkwardly navigated her way to the water for a drink, i mean AWKWARD!!

driving out!

mountain weekend

so, bf and i (with the genius) are packing up and heading to sauda, nc for the weekend to go stay at my parents mtn. house, hike, hang, enjoy the crisp weather and changing leaves

got me thinking about wool socks, autumnal drinks, and dishes

The bishops wife  from here
3/4 to 1 oz. simple syrup (recipe follows)
1/4" lemon slice
1 oz. white rum
red wine (zin, cab, grenace)

muddle lem and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker, then add rum and ice, shake vigorously, pour into high ball, top with red wine and a lemon slice, yummmmm..

simple syrup:
1 cinnamon stick
5 cloves
2 strips of orange peel (no pith)
1/2 pear, peeled and quartered
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

bring to a boil and strain when cool.

probably going to shake up some of these and make salmon rillettes and a local salad mix tomorrow night.
